PROGRAM NOTE

Theme and variations on a nonsense chant by my three-year-old sonー

The theme of this piece was based on my three-year-old son's nonsense chant, "peete-vtte, peete-vtte, peet-vtte, boo". Using this song, I wrote a piece with a twelve-tone series. The tempi shift constantly, which derives from the nature of my son's singing. The pianist alternates between seven instruments while the violinist plays with different techniques in every variation.

PROGRAM NOTE

Quix

題名はquixotix(ドンキホーテのような)から取られた。

Quix is a word derived from "quixotic", adjective created after Cervantes's "Don Quixote", meaning something that is foolishly impractical, not realistic, but here it's not intended as a negative concept, since I firmly believe in the thought-provoking value of Utopia as a way of thinking that could drive us to get amazing results.

Reiko Manabe (piccolo)
