...In this piece, I ask the instrumentalists to use special techniques that are very hard to control. While they attempt to make a particular 'something' happen, a lot of interesting 'nothings' happen too. I like the idea that the physics of the instruments and the techniques of the players intersect to create something that no-one can exactly predict. ...

John Godfrey

現代音楽でのキャリアは長く、作品は世界各地で演奏され、デッカ、アーゴ、カンタロープ等のレコード会社で録音された。1989年アンサンブル・アイスブレーカー、1997年クラッシュ・アンサンブル、2008年7月クワイエット・ミュージック・アンサンブルを結成。即興奏者としては、ポーリーン・オリヴェロスやデヴィッド・トゥープといった著名な奏者と共演した。

John Godfrey has a long history of involvement in New Music as a composer, performer, improviser and arranger. His compositions have been performed and broadcast in Europe, North America and Australia; CDs containing his music have been released by many labels including Decca Argo and Cantaloupe. In 1989, John co-founded the New Music group Icebreaker; he has been a founding member of Ireland's Crash Ensemble since 1997; and in 2008 he founded the experimental music group Quiet Music Ensemble. He performs also as a free improviser, and has appeared with renowned exponents including Pauline Oliveros and David Toop.

作品の素材は一つの単旋律として各楽器に与えられ、複雑で変化する形の三人のユニゾンとして奏でられる。各楽器は本来のキャラクターを押し出さず、曖昧で不安定な境を漂い、時に交わり、融合し、別の何かへと変化する。

The material in the piece is a single monophonic line, adapted to each instrument, and played throughout in a complex, shifting unison between the three players. The identities of each instrument are made ambiguous and unstable, allowing them to recombine and fuse together into something other.

ニューヨークのウェット・インク・アンサンブルの代表。2012年秋よりオバーリン音楽院にて作曲を教える予定。これまでにアーゴシー財団現代音楽基金、イシュー・プロジェクト・ルーム、ジェローム・ファンデーション、イヴァ・ミカショフ・トラストから助成をうけ、マクドウェル・コロニー、チヴィッテラ・ラニエリ・センター にアーティスト・イン・レジデンスとして招かれた。...

Eric Wubbels is Executive Director, pianist, and a composer member ofthe Wet Ink Ensemble (NY), and, beginning in Fall 2012, Visiting Assistant Professor of Composition at Oberlin Conservatory. He has received commissioning grants from the Argosy Foundation Contemporary Music Fund, ISSUE Project Room, the Jerome Foundation, and Yvar Mikhashoff Trust, and has been awarded residencies at the MacDowell Colony and Civitella Ranieri Center (Italy). As a performer, he has given U.S. and world premieres of works by major figures such as Peter Ablinger, Richard Barrett, Michael Finnissy, Beat Furrer, Bernhard Lang, and Mathias Spahlinger.
