a window, a yellow bird
ア ウィンドウ、ア イエローバード

a window, a yellow bird exist in the line of sight I have at my desk as I compose each day. from staring out the window into the yard, my attention is moved in different directions, while the bird remains captive.

this little piece is dedicated to Reiko Manabe and to the efforts of recovery from the 2011 earthquake in Japan.

窓、黄色い鳥、毎日作曲をする机から見るものたち。窓を通して中庭を見ていると、ほかのものに目がいってしまう。籠のなかに鳥は居るいうのに。

作品は間部令子とヒバリプロジェクトのために捧げられている。

Michelle Lou
ミッシェル ルー

カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校を卒業後、同大学修士課程修了。イタリアのピアチェンツァ音楽院、オーストリア国立グラーツ音楽大学にて学ぶ。現在スタンフォード大学音楽学部博士課程在籍。これまでにアルディッティ弦楽四重奏団、サンフランシスコ現代音楽プレーヤーズ等に演奏されている。現在、JACK弦楽四重奏団、グレーム・ジェニングス、アンサンブルELISIONのために曲を書いている。

Michelle Lou holds degrees in double bass performance and in composition from the University of California San Diego. Additional studies include the Conservatorio G. Nicolini, Italy and the Universitat fur Darstellende Kunst Graz, Austria, the latter as a Fulbright Scholar. Michelle is currently a doctoral candidate at Stanford University. She's had her music presented by such ensembles as the Arditti Quartet, ensemble ascolta, Ensemble SurPlus the Argento Chamber Ensemble, sfsound, Earplay, the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, and has future projects slated for the JACK Quartet, Graeme Jennings, and Ensemble ELISION.

Interpunct
インタープンクト

聖フェデーレ・ジョヴァニ芸術基金のための委嘱で、ベートーヴェンのバカテル３・４番の間に演奏された。インタープンクトは句読点で、ラテン語では言葉を区切る。この小品は２つのバカテルを区切り、作品に全く異なる意味合いと解釈を付加する。

Interpunct was commissioned by the Premio San Fedele Giovani Artisti to be played between Beethoven's 3rd and 4th Bagatelles op.126. Interpunct is the small punctuation mark (a vertically centered dot) that was used to separate words in Latin script. Similarly, here a short piece is used to separate two Bagatelles and, therefore, provide a very different narrative / interpretation to the original work.

Evis Sammoutis is Assistant Professor of Music at European University Cyprus and Artistic Director of the Pharos Arts Foundation International Contemporary Music Festival. His works have performed in over 35 countries and performed by the Ensemble Modern, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Kreutzer Quartet. Sammoutis won numerous international prizes and awards including the Royal Philharmonic Society Award, the Franz Liszt Scholarship and prizes at the Irino, Dutilleux and Jurgenson Competitions. www.evissammoutis.com
