星蜂雀
Hummingbird hawk-moth

ホシホウジャクは活発に飛行するスズメガの仲間です。自然は隣にあり、美しくそして脅威である。小さいけれど激しく飛ぶこの蛾の如く、この大きな自然のうねりとそれがもたらした大きな悲しみと未だ続く不安を乗り越えていきたい。そんな願いを込めて。

When I heard about the hibari project, I picked the hummingbird hawk-moth because it flies so showily. Nature is our neighbor. It is beautiful but, on the other hand, it threatens us. I hope we can overcome our deep sadness and lasting uneasiness like this insect. That is my wish.

BIOGRAPHY

Osamu Kawakami

1979年生まれ。東京音楽大学音楽学部音楽学科卒業、同大学大学院修了。作曲を池辺晋一郎、細川俊夫、久田典子、山本裕之の各氏に師事。2003年第20回現音新人作曲賞受賞。2009年武生国際音楽祭に招待され、2008～2011年同音楽祭で作品が演奏される。2010年ロワイヨモン作曲セミナー参加。作品は国内外で演奏され、委嘱作品も多い。

Born in 1979, Osamu Kawakami graduated from the Tokyo College of Music with bachelor and masters degrees. He studied composition with Shin-ichiro Ikebe, Toshio Hosokawa, Noriko Hisada and Hiroyuki Yamamoto. In 2003 he received the 20th JSCM Composition Award. The Takefu International Music Festival invited Kawakami in 2009, and they also played Kawakami's music in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Takefu International Music Festival sent Kawakami to the Royaumont Composition Seminar as an exchange participant. Kawakami's work has been performed in many countries. He has been commissioned by major Japanese new music groups.

I have been drawn for some time toward the microscopic instabilities inherent in musical performance at low volume levels, and a solo flute piece seems an entirely conducive format for highlighting these subtly volatile areas of activity. Ben Isaacs
ベン アイザックス

繊細で不安定な音づかいを魅せる作曲家として知られている。しばしば楽器の音域や低減の限界を超えることを要求する。最近、ピアノ奏者セバスチャン・バーヴェック、サックス奏者エレリ・アン・エヴァンスへの新曲委嘱、mmm…の「サークル・オブ・フレンズ」の参加。ハダースフィールド大学でアーロン・キャシディとブリン・ハリソン両氏に師事。

Ben Isaacs is a composer whose music is characterised by its limited gestural palette and preference for weak, unstable sounds, often occurring at extremes of instrumental register and quietude. Recent projects have included pieces for pianist Sebastian Berweck and saxophonist Eleri Ann Evans, as well as a trio for mmm…'s Circle of Friends project. Ben studied at the University of Huddersfield with Aaron Cassidy and Bryn Harrison.
