This is derived from my Threnody to mother of the earth for flute solo and ensemble which was dedicated to Robert Aitken and performed in the memorial concert for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. This work is a music ritual to reflect my profound sadness over Japan's worst natural disaster of an earthquake and tsunami. We should all treasure our loved one, our mother of earth and blessing to all the victims in this natural disaster to rest in peace.

PROGRAM NOTE
Requiem for the Departed and Hope for the Future
The piece consists of two parts: the first part, a requiem for the departed and the second, hope for the future. When I composed it I was praying for a bright future. My works are mostly contemporary music. But for this project, I wanted people to be relaxed, so I wrote tonal music.
