続きのない連歌
unanswered renga

東日本大震災の数週間後に書いた―これは震災にたいする、即時的感情的な反応である。本作には...一応の形式が備わっている。けれども...厳密に構造化された作品というよりはむしろ、概ね自由に作曲されたものである。...連歌師のそれに拠っていると言ってよい。この曲は、続ける人のない発句のようなものである。

I wrote this piece a few weeks after the quake, an immediate emotional response...the piece was freely composed, rather than rigorously structured like most of my recent works. In that sense, I modelled not only the form, but also the method of writing, on the Japanese poetry of the mediaeval period.

ダリル　ゼミソン
Daryl Jamieson

カナダ出身の作曲家、音楽学者。東京藝術大学の近藤譲氏、ヨーク大学でニコラ・レファニュ氏に師事。作品はこれまで上田純子氏、菊地奈緒子氏、井上郷子氏、ボッジーニ弦楽四重奏団、ロレーヌ国立交響楽団、アルノルト・シェーンベルク室内管弦楽団、ヨーク大学室内管弦楽団などによって演奏されている。ホームページ→www.daryljamieson.com

Daryl was born in Halifax, in Eastern Canada, and currently lives and works in Tokyo. He studied at the University of York in the UK, and spent one year as a researcher at the Tokyo University of the Arts. He writes for both Japanese and Western instruments, and is very interested in traditional Japanese music and art. 待雪草
Galanthus (snowdrop)

...３月から４月にかけて、トロントでは少しずつ冬の明けるころである。今年最初のスノードロップ（小さな白い花々）が、我が家の庭の雪から顔を出し始め、まるで、それは困難な時にも現れる希望のようにに思えたのである。

Galanthus (snowdrop), for solo violin, was composed in 2011 for the Hibari Project. I composed this work in March and April, as winter was slowly coming to an end in Toronto. The first snowdrops (tiny white flowers) were just emerging out of the snow in my garden, and this felt like a small sign of hope during a very difficult time.

Linda Catlin Smith

ニューヨーク育ち、トロント在住の作曲家。 カナダ文化庁、オンタリオ芸術議会、バンフ・センター、カナダ作曲著作権協会、トロント芸術議会等の助成を受ける。2005年Jules Legér 賞受賞。チェロとピアノの作品『バラード』をワールド・エディションズレーベルよりリリース。現在、ウィルフリッド・ローリエ大学にて作曲を教えている。

Linda Catlin Smith grew up in New York and lives in Toronto, Canada. Her work has been supported by the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, Chalmers Foundation, Banff Centre, SOCAN Foundation and Toronto Arts Council; in 2005 her work Garland was awarded Canada's prestigious Jules Legér Prize. Her work Ballad was recently released as a solo cd on the World Editions label. She teaches composition privately and at Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada.
